What is an Assessment?: Psychological assessment is the process of gathering information from various sources (e.g., interviews, questionnaires, testing, observations and file review) about a person’s social, emotional, behavioural, and/or cognitive functioning and interpreting this information using current theory and research in order to provide a deeper understanding of a person’s psychological and adaptive functioning.

My experience with health services began in Portugal, where I trained as a Forensic and Social Exclusion Psychologist. Over the past years in Canada, I have worked in a clinical setting which has focused on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression, Anxiety, ADHD and Eating Disorders.

I have a high degree of interest in performing assessments and have been focusing on administering assessments related to Mental Health/ Diagnostic, preparation for Bariatric Surgery, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Personality Disorders. I recently started to administer Autism assessments (ASD) for children over 5 years old and adults.

My primary therapy approaches include but are not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), CBT-E, CPT, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Exposure with Response Prevention, Systemic Desensitization, Internal Family System Therapy and Narrative Therapy. An integrative approach allows me to choose what is best for each individual client, and I am always interested in further education around emerging practices.
